The Interventions tab of the Study Builder defines the product or intervention participants will follow: what it is, how it is taken, what it is compared against, and how the dose changes over time. If your study is observational and has no intervention, you can skip this tab.
What you enter here does double duty. It documents the intervention for your protocol, and it drives the medication and intervention logging experience participants see in the mobile app.
Intervention fields#
- Product name
- The name of the study product as participants and the team will know it.
- Generic name or class
- The generic drug name or the class of intervention, for protocol clarity.
- Administration route
- How the product is taken — the route by which it enters the body.
- Formulation
- The physical form of the product, such as the preparation participants receive.
- Comparator
- What the intervention is compared against — for example a placebo or an active comparator in a controlled design.
- Dose escalation schedule
- The planned sequence of dose changes over the course of the study, defined as a series of steps.
Dose escalation steps#
A dose escalation schedule (a planned, stepwise increase in dose, often used to start participants low and titrate up) is defined as a list of steps. Each step can include:
- An amount — the dose for that step.
- A frequency — how often the dose is taken during that step.
- A duration in weeks — how long the step lasts before the schedule advances.
How this drives participant logging#
The intervention and dosing setup is what generates intervention logs on the participant side. When a study includes medication or intervention logging, participants use the app's medication tracker to record the doses or adherence events the study requests — and those requests come from the schedule you define here, not from the assessment schedule.
Keep the two mental models separate: assessments ask participants questions or guide them through tasks; the intervention setup asks them to log what they took. Both land as tasks in the same app, described from the participant's point of view in Check-ins and assessments.
